Philippines 2026 - 1

photography travel

We travelled to the Philippines recently. This is post #1 - there will be more!

We landed in Manila and were greeted by wet suitcases :|. We stayed overnight then continued to Dumaguete, Negros Oriental.

planes
Some planes hanging out at NAIA.

We didn't do a lot the first few days - we were mostly settling in and getting things sorted for the rest of our stay (4 weeks so we had plenty of time). Most of our stay was in Bindoy - you'll see some photos from the local attractions there sometime.

water
Photo from a morning run.

highway
And an afternoon walk (had to make up for sitting in airports/planes for a day).

And finally got out the big camera and had some fun with the ND1000. trike
Unfortunately my ND1000 only fits the telephoto (if I fit it to the wide zoom I get heavy vignetting) otherwise I would have used it more. It's very fun being able to do a 1/10" exposure on a sunny day at 1pm, and if it's overcast or the sun isn't fully up you can do very long exposures to completely smooth out any movement (people walking past are completely invisible in a 30" exposure).

Stay tuned for the next post - I have a huge backlog of photos to edit/share:

(note this includes sidecar files, auto-generated jpgs from my DJI devices & some videos)

Gear Notes

As much as I love my D850, my Sony RX100-VA is excellent while travelling - pocket sized, very inconspicuous and will hurt a lot less if I drop it in the ocean. You'll be seeing a lot more pics from it in these posts (still mostly the D850 though, I love lugging around a heavy camera).

I shrink the images significantly for this website so except for the few pictures where I fully open the aperture on the full frame for a shallow DOF it'll be hard to tell the difference.
