Philippines 2026 - 2 - JJ Island

photography travel

Once of the first places we visited was JJ Island in Bindoy.

It's just outside of town and you just pay a small entry fee to enter. I would highly recommend going there early in the morning - we went a little later than I would have liked but it was still very nice.

There's a nice reef 2.5 km from the coast (Mantalip Reef). Drone battery only started at ~60% so barely made it back (would have taken a few more photos otherwise). reef

And to the south: negros_south

Drone battery depleted, I was back to the DSLR. Sun was already pretty high so I made use of the polarising filter to cut some glare and improve contrast.

There's a pretty nice little boardwalk through the mangroves. boardwalk

And some small trees sticking out of the water were a pretty cool feature. trees_wide

Was very haze up along the coast. The humidity is so high in the Philippines it doesn't need to be cold to get foggy. This is an "accurate" edit where I kept it to close to how it originally looked. Kinda cool with the lone boat in front of the hazy coastline. coast_wide_hazy
This one I boosted the contrast a lot to get some colour and emphasise the mountains in the background. coast_wide_dehaze

Some thing but I zoomed in a little. I think I prefer the previous one as it captures the entire coastline instead of cutting it out. If a boat was closer that could have made a nice foreground though. coast_hazy

I went back to the trees and cracked out the ND1000 again for some 10" exposures to smooth out the water nicely. trees_nd1000
I quite like how these came out. tree_nd1000
